Lancet Study: Passive Smoking Deaths Surge 50% in India

A new Global Burden of Disease report published in The Lancet Public Health shows alarming trends in environmental tobacco smoke exposure. Specifically, passive smoking deaths in India surged nearly 50% between 1990 and 2023. In 2023 alone, second-hand smoke caused 325,600 fatalities across the country.
