Course Overview
The ACPP in Fetal Medicine equips MD / MS or equivalent Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists and MD Radiologists with the diagnostic precision, counselling competency, and clinical reasoning skills required to manage complex fetal cases independently. Delivered through self-paced video lectures, monthly live sessions with leading FM specialists, and a 15-day onsite clinical training at BFMC-affiliated centres across India, the program offers a structured pathway to Fetal Medicine subspecialty competency without requiring a career break.
Clinical Relevance and Practical Application
Fetal Medicine is no longer a niche subspecialty ; it is rapidly becoming the baseline standard of modern antenatal care. Yet the formal training routes remain inaccessible to most practicing clinicians, and short workshops or standalone observerships fall short of delivering structured competency across the full FM skill stack.
The ACPP in Fetal Medicine addresses this gap directly by giving ObGyns the diagnostic and counselling skills to retain complex FM cases in their own practice, and giving Radiologists the clinical reasoning framework to move beyond image reporting toward integrated FM diagnostic consulting.

- On-Demand Video Lectures : A comprehensive digital curriculum of KOL led video lectures and procedural demonstration recordings, for all 25 high yield chapters, covering topics such as First-Trimester screening, Fetal Echocardiography, Doppler Velocimetry, Genetics, and Multiple Pregnancies. These are accessible at any time via the LMS.
- Live Masterclasses and Case Discussions : Monthly live sessions with national FM specialists, built around real anomaly cases, counselling dilemmas, and management decisions.
- 15-Day Intensive Clinical Works :
Onsite training at BFMC-affiliated centres across major cities in India . The training is structured as two blocks, ensuring participants enter each block with more knowledge they progress in the course. Includes 3 days of hands-on OPUS simulator training aligned to FMF and ISUOG protocols, and 12 days of supervised clinical observership with signed case logs and one-to-one faculty mentorship.
Faculty Expertise
The program is led by Dr. Prathima Radhakrishnan, the first formally qualified Fetal Medicine consultant in India and the first Indian to obtain the FMF UK Diploma, trained under Professor Kypros Nicolaides at King's College Hospital, London. Dr. Prathima is supported by a faculty of experienced FM specialists including Dr. Deepak Bansal, Dr. Veena Acharya, Dr. Vandana Chadha, Dr. Supriya Seshadri and many others, all trained at BFMC, bringing a blend of clinical depth and subspecialty expertise across obstetric ultrasound, fetal medicine, and radiology.
Accreditation
This program is certified by The CPD Standards Office (UK) and carries the FGi-RI Certificate of Practical Clinical Observership issued by the Fetal and Gynae Imaging Research Institute thereby validating both the theoretical and hands-on dimensions of FM training with globally recognised academic standards.

Master First Trimester Screening and Genetics
Learn FMF-standard first trimester scanning protocols, early structural and chromosomal anomaly detection, aneuploidy screening interpretation, NIPT result analysis, and genetic counselling frameworks for complex prenatal findings.

Build Fetal Anatomy and Structural Assessment Skills
Study 3D/4D ultrasound acquisition and optimisation, structured assessment of fetal facial, neural, spinal, thoracic, abdominal, and genitourinary structures, and systematic anomaly identification across all fetal systems.

Develop Fetal Cardiac and Doppler Interpretation Skills
Explore sequential segmental cardiac analysis, critical congenital heart defect identification, fetal arrhythmia evaluation, Doppler waveform interpretation across uterine, umbilical, and fetal vessels, and placenta accreta spectrum recognition.

15-Day Intensive Clinical Training
The 15-day clinical training is structured across two distinct components: 12 days of supervised clinical observership at BFMC-affiliated Fetal Medicine centres, split into two 6-day blocks across the program duration, and 3 days of dedicated hands-on time on the Volutracer OPUS simulator under direct supervision of Fetal Medicine specialists.
OPUS Simulator Training (3 days): Every participant receives individual hands-on practice time on the Volutracer OPUS simulator, with a strict maximum of 2 delegates per device. Training covers first-trimester and anomaly scan protocols aligned to FMF and ISUOG guidelines, under direct supervision of Fetal Medicine specialists.
Split Observership Model (12 days): The two 6-day blocks are timed deliberately so participants return to the clinic each time with sharper diagnostic context and progressively deeper curriculum knowledge.
Live Clinical Exposure: Across both blocks, participants observe advanced anomaly scans, fetal echocardiography, Doppler assessments, and invasive procedures performed by BFMC-trained FM specialists in a high-volume clinical setting.
Counselling in Practice: Participants attend live patient counselling sessions for complex genetic results and anomaly diagnoses, building the communication skills that textbooks and video lectures cannot replicate.
Logbook and Certification: Participants maintain a signed logbook of structural, genetic, and interventional cases across both blocks. On completion, they receive the FGi-RI Certificate of Practical Clinical Observership, validating their hands-on clinical training formally and independently of the program certificate.

MD, MS, or equivalent in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or MD or DNB in Radiodiagnosis from an NMC-recognised university.
