Standardized Guidelines and Operational Infrastructure

To maintain quality, the Health Department issued standardized guidelines for collection, labelling, and cross-matching across all 201 licensed centres. Furthermore, the state collected over 5.4 lakh blood units in 2025–26, achieving a voluntary donation rate of 96.04%. Additionally, authorities are establishing digital directories of voluntary donors to streamline emergency mobilization. Currently, 17 blood centres operate modern apheresis units, with rapid expansion planned across all remaining districts.

Alongside blood safety initiatives, the state is expanding organ donation capabilities. For example, the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (PILBS) recently completed three successful liver transplants within 15 days.
